Sorry folks, but this was the worse pizza that I have had in ages. It wasn't cooked enough and the ingredients were scarce. The sausage was horrible. Had to seriously search for the toppings. The sauce was even bad tasting. I went in for a take-away and purchased the highly overpriced combination pizza. It cost over $25 dollars. Quite a bit of money for a pizza in a town far away from populated places. I can only compare the pizza there to Good Time Pizza I have had in Bovey when there in the past and there is no comparison.

I always enjoy Sammys pizza when I am north. Great food, great service, always a must stop! I also love the history behind this joint. Monday night pizza buffet for a little over $10. Everyday there is a special. Great stop!!

Ran into this little gem by pure accident while driving up to a fishing trip. It was rated well on Yelp, and all the reviews were spot on! The menu has so many choices that anyone will be happy here. The pizza was really great. Thin crust with a nice crunch, and not a bit of a trace of grease, just perfect. The wings were unlike any other I have had, and were delicious! Some type of sweet Asian chili sauce with a hint of ginger. Also had good ole' fried wings that were great. The soup and salad bar were also amazing. Wish this was closer to my hometown!!

My whole family loves this place! The pizza is amazing. The sandwiches are fantastic. We have always had awesome service here and they take special care of my son with a dairy allergy. I can't say enough good about this restaurant.

This post will be short and sweet like my visit to Grand Rapids. The boy and I stopped in on the way home from the cities, he had been wanting to stop here since he had last as a child and wanted to relive that moment with me. Sammy's is just an old school family style pizza joint. Not really my style of place, but a place that is definitely needed. It was packed when we were there on Memorial Day as I suspect it usually is. We had the Veggie pizza, it was alright, not anything special in my mind, cheap ($14.50 for a medium), filling, with bonus of cheap wine and beer. The toppings were fresh, but the crust just wasn't doing it for me. I've had better. Service was normal. I mean it was just meh for me. I don't know if that's because I was tired or am more used to the city life, but I get it. There is a buffet that happens almost daily, the salad bar was tempting, and the best part about this place is that you can add on just the salad bar portion to any entree for like $5, but the rest of the buffet lacked any luster. Overall cute, nice, and normal. I need more of a standout, but it still is a nice place to grab a pretty good bite to eat.

I make it up to the Grand Rapids area from time to time as my wife has family up there. Just a few weeks ago was my first visit to Sammy's. We had spent all day on Big Turtle Lake so by the time we got here we were quite famished. The pizza was great and the salad bar although small had some very tasty salads on it. It was good enough that the next night we ordered one for delivery at 10pm as we were a bit hungry after spending the day at the Northern Minnesota Swap Meet. I will certainly include a stop at Sammy's the next time we make it up this way.

Great hot wings we vacation in God's country every summer and Sammys is a must visit. I wish that they would get rid of the refill limit at almost $2.00 a glass for fountain drinks . Thin crust pizza is the best we have had anywhere!

If you are in Grand Rapids and you need pizza, look no farther than Sammy's. Good pizza and a nice staff. It may not be NYC slices, but for NoMinn it is darn good ... and almost as good as at the original Sammy's over in Hibbing, which I prefer a bit more for the atmosphere, but then again you don't eat atmosphere :-)

Being a Chicagoan, going out for pizza in northern Minn. is a gamble. Many wouldn't even take the risk! But, given Sammy's above-average reviews on Yelp, I included it on my list of restaurants to try while we were recently vacationing near Grand Rapids, Minn. We're glad we did! (Incidentally, my 5-star rating is not for the best pizza I've ever eaten in my life but best considering it's a Minn.-based recipe!) Oh, that pizza! There was something delightfully different about it. The sauce had a delicious semi-sweetness to it... the sausage was delicious... the cheese was just right, not overwhelming. No wonder it was so good, as Sammy's explains their ingredients on their website: "Our secret isn't just one special spice or ingredient. Sure, we use a secret blend of spices, which Grandma Louise still mixes together herself up in Hibbing and sends off to each of our restaurants. But we also use only the freshest, natural ingredients that meet our exacting standards. That means we grind our own extra lean sausage, season and cook our own hamburger, and roll our own homemade meatballs. Pizza dough is made fresh every day and then tossed and crimped." Sammy's offers an Italian lunch buffet, which we wish we'd had time to try but couldn't. If it's as good as the pizza and salad we had, we missed out and will definitely try it if we return to the area someday.

I love this place and have for many, many years. By far the most common thing I go here for is their pizza buffet at lunch time. You are in and out quickly and the spread includes a small salad bar, some wings, some soups and plenty of pizza. Only problem is you have to watch when they put things up because the "good ones" go fast... and by good ones I mean the sausage. Hands down one of my favorite sausage pizzas anywhere... either alone or with other toppings, they ensure that each square piece has it's own generous sausage ball. Yum! We order delivery a lot and always get their cowboy pizza, a nice mix which of course includes sausage. I feel a little guilty giving this place 5 stars when I honestly don't think I have tried anything else on their menu besides their pizza, but my guilt goes away when I think about how delicious it is. I can't wait to go back. The staff here is usually good, for a buffet it's pretty much just keeping the drinks filled and bringing a check, so simple stuff, but they generally seem attentive. And their checks always come with a fresh-baked cookie of some kind... also yummy! Being a pizza joint in a small town with most of the other stand-by pizza chains I think this place holds it's own and then some and it has for years. There's a reason for that... they put out a good consistent product that keep people like me going back again and again and again.

When I was growing up in Eau Claire, WI Sammy's Pizza was the BEST. Over the years I'd never found any better. Imagine my surprise when I found this restaurant in Grand Rapids. I made it for the lunch buffet. WELL worth the price. Nice salads, chicken wings and of course, their awesome pizza. What I did find odd was that there was a Pizza Hut next door. Who'd ever settle for PH when Sammy's is in town? I'm going back tomorrow for more!!!

We were in Grand Rapids for a basketball game. I asked the front desk at the hotel for a good pizza place that delivers. They mentioned Sammy's, but only gave it a fair review. They couldn't come up with a recommendation. I went on-line and decided to try Sammy's. We just ordered a pepperoni pizza, but it was a great pizza. I highly recommend the pizza. Great taste - actually one of the best pizzas I eaten in a long time.

That sauce... Nothing compares. This is the only pizza I've ever truly craved. I love getting a huge plate of rigatoni with the marinara sauce on the side... Ask for extra sauce, take it home, and have more as soon as your stomach can handle it. The buffet is great. Lots of variety. Excellent chicken (Grandpa Rusty's favorite!) When I'm in town, Sammys pizza/pasta makes up about half of what I eat... and it's always as marvelous as I remembered.

I like Sammy's in my area a lot. But the crust at this Sammy's was extra perfect crisp and not tough.... Wish they were all like this one.

Easy to see why this is a local favorite. Courteous servers and the owner, Tony, is hospitable and welcoming - especially to the traveling fisherman. A definite stop on the way north to the lake!
